Following an official vote on behalf of the eleven Panhellenic sororities currently on campus, Pi Beta Phi and Alpha Xi Delta will be joining the University of South Carolina Fraternity and Sorority community. Pi Beta Phi will be recolonizing its South Carolina Alpha chapter in the fall of 2014. Additionally, Alpha Xi Delta will be colonizing for the first time in the fall of 2016.
However, Pi Beta Phi’s return to campus is currently contingent on the availability of land in Greek Village phase two to build a house starting at the latest in 2015 and to occupy by 2016. The university looks forward to extending housing opportunities in Greek Village phase two to all new groups who come to campus.
The vote came after an extension process started in August of 2012, when the Panhellenic groups voted to open the University of South Carolina campus. An extension committee was selected representing each of the Panhellenic chapters on campus who reviewed all packets submitted by interested groups, selected three to make formal presentations and finally met to recommend the two groups selected to join our community.
In selecting groups to invite to colonize, the extension committee considered a number of factors including local alumnae support, readiness to support a large chapter size and appropriate marketing and public relations plans.
Representatives from Alpha Xi Delta and Pi Beta Phi were notified Monday February 4th of their selection.
