Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training
You don’t have to be a mental health professional to learn to identify the signs of someone who may be experiencing a suicidal crisis and intervene. Become a Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper with Jennifer Myers, Coordinator of Suicide Prevention Services at Student Health Services Counseling & Human Development Center, to learn the signs and become trained to serve as a “gatekeeper” to mental health services on campus and in the community. Fall training dates are as follows:

September 12th, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Location Maxcy Classroom
October 1st, 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Location Maxcy Classroom
October 23rd, 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Location Maxcy Classroom
November 8th, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Location Maxcy Classroom
November 20th, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Location Williams Brice Nursing Building (WMBB) Room 133

In addition to offering training sessions throughout the year, Jennifer can come to your organization or office and conduct training at a time convenient for you. Visit http://www.sa.sc.edu/shs/chdc/training to schedule training for your organization.

True Strength, men’s group to prevent sexual assault, now recruiting members
True Strength encourages men to unite and take an active role against sexual assault and sexual violence through:

· Providing information about sexual assault and sexual violence
· Offering a platform in which men can share personal experiences and stories of how sexual assault or sexual violence has affected their lives or the lives of others they care about
· Demonstrating how to create a safer environment for mothers, sisters, daughters, girlfriends, wives, female friends and others in situations in which bystander accountability is the norm, not the exception
· Creating a forum for men to share new and innovative ideas to address sexual assault and sexual violence

Men have a major role in preventing interpersonal violence. Join True Strength to start. Contact Corey Ingram, SAVIP’s True Strength coordinator, to join the movement at 803-777-8248, cingram@mailbox.sc.edu, or stop by SAVIP at the Thomson Student Health Center first floor, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.
