The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) and the University of South Carolina (USC) invite faculty and professional staff members who wish to participate in a USAC-sponsored study abroad program to apply for a Summer 2014 Faculty International Development Award (FIDA). The goal of the FIDA is to increase awareness and understanding of study abroad among university faculty and staff, familiarity with USAC programs, and thereby help campus internationalization efforts and better support our students in their study abroad endeavors. The program is geared towards faculty and staff who have regular direct contact with students and who also have limited prior international experience.
FIDA recipients will participate as a student for one summer session (ranging from 3-5 weeks) of a USAC program in order to gain an understanding of the full study abroad experience including the curriculum, integration opportunities, faculty, housing and field trips. 2014 FIDA locations are available in: Brazil, Chile, China (2 locations), Costa Rica (3 locations), Czech Republic, France-Session 1 only, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy (2 locations), Spain (4 locations), and Thailand. For more information on each specific program, visit http://usac.unr.edu/study-abroad-programs.
Administrative (professional) and academic (must be full-time assistant, associate or full professors) faculty may apply and applicants must have the approval of their supervisor/Dean. The FIDA covers tuition and field trips included in the program. Applicants are also eligible to apply for limited supplemental funding from USC to help offset other costs such as airfare. Housing, insurance, or travel expenses are not included in the waiver.
Applications are due Friday, November 15th to Rachel Hardinson in the Study Abroad Office, Legare College, Suite 321. Awards will be announced December 1st.
