Review of students’ first year, orientation underway

Vice President Dennis Pruitt has charged a number of students, faculty and staff with reviewing and improving the design of University of South Carolina students’ first year.

Composed of 15 students, faculty and staff, the First-Year Study Group is charged with reviewing and making recommendations to improve the first-year student experience–from interactions to communications to programs–at the University of South Carolina Columbia.

The eight-member Orientation Design Advisory Committee is working concurrently with the First-Year Study Group to redesign the university’s orientation program. The committee will review and make recommendations for an extended orientation program that will align student expectations, improve services and augment student retention.
