As the end of the semester approaches, you may be wondering what you are going to do with all the stuff you accumulated in your residence hall room. Have a mini-fridge you can’t fit into your car? Some ill-advised clothing purchases that you never want to see again? University Housing has the solution!
Each spring, University Housing runs the Give It Up for Good program to collect donations from the residence halls as students move out for the summer. The majority of the 30,000 pounds of stuff that is collected is sold at a yard sale to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Food and plastic bags are donated directly to Harvest Hope.
This year from April 23-May 13, you can donate items in one of the 19 drop off locations, and if you live in McBryde or in one of the Horseshoe apartment buildings, you can also donate items using one of the blue donation bags provided to you by your resident mentor.
Please help us by following the posted instructions for items and taking large items outside to your bulk collection point. The Give It Up for Good Yard Sale will be on May 24 from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Greene Street Intramural Field. Early Bird admission from 7-8 a.m. will be $5, with free admission after 8 a.m. Last year the sale raised over $4,500 for Habitat for Humanity – come out to help use raise even more money for the Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity!
