A series of construction projects beginning Thursday on Gibbes Green will require temporary detours for pedestrians this summer.
The projects include renovations and a technology upgrade in LeConte, restoration of Davis College’s facade, renovations to Hamilton and work on the steam lines that provide steam heat to Hamilton, LeConte and Davis College.
As a result of construction, most of which is expected to be completed by the end of summer, access to pedestrian pathways and building entryways on Gibbes Green will be altered temporarily. The 1500 block of Greene Street between Pickens and Bull Streets will be closed to pedestrians and non-construction vehicles May 26 – July 31. During this time, pedestrians will be directed toward the Pickens Street bridge.
Signs and traffic attendants will help pedestrians navigate the areas while they are under construction. To assist people with disabilities, the university has identified an accessible route from Pendleton Garage through Gibbes Green to the Russell House University Union (see map).
During construction, pedestrians are urged to observe new signage and restrictions.
