IdeaPOP! 2017 preview No. 1

IdeaPOP!, the division’s annual in-house conference, is set for Wednesday, May 17 at the Russell House University Union.

This year’s conference will focus on the theme “Embracing Change” and will feature a keynote address from DeAngela Burns-Wallace, along with more than a dozen concurrent sessions. Each Monday between now and the conference, we’ll give you a sneak peek of some of them.

Division Workplace Survey Deep Dive
Take a deeper dive into the Division’s workplace survey with Stacey Bradley, Office of Professional Development, which most recently inquired about an individual’s workplace experience.

Motivational Interviewing: Making Change Less Scary Since 1983
Change can feel overwhelming and unwelcome; particularly when we don’t feel in control. Learn some basic techniques from Brooke Chehoski, Office of Substance Abuse Prevention & Education, on Motivational Interviewing; a conversational style that diffuses tension, promotes cooperation, and can ease difficult conversations.

Adapting to the Needs of the Growing Off-Campus Student Population
In Spring 2017, Off-Campus Student Services collaborated with campus partners to develop and conduct an off-campus student needs assessment to learn more about off-campus student needs and experiences. Hear from Janie Kerzan, Office of Off-Campus Student Services, to learn about the changing off-campus housing landscape, to share best practices, and generate new ideas to enhance UofSC off-campus student experience.
